Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the activities of the honorable CHEKA officer, sapper, saboteur and partisan Colonel Ilya Grigoryevich Starinov (1900-2000), who for several decades from his century–old biography was associated with Soviet Ukraine. In Ukrain he received his first professional skills as a sapper, a bomber and he participated in the fight against Ukrainian nationalists in the 1920s and 1940s. He trained Ukrainian partisans and led their combat work during the Great Patriotic War. Kharkov sabotage operation, prepared and conducted under the leadership of I. G. Starinov in October – November 1941, entered the textbooks on sabotage work. The work is based on a wide range of historical sources. Both general scientific and special historical methods are used in the study.

As a result, the authors come to the conclusion that the activity of I. G. Starinov in the Ukrainian SSR became the basis for the further development of his methods of mine-blasting and sabotage work, which was fully deployed already during the Great Patriotic War.
