The purpose of this article is a comprehensive scientific analysis of the system of protection of railway trips of Emperor Alexander III. The relevance of the study is due to the need for a comprehensive description of the initial stage of the development of transport security measures associated with the protection of top officials of the state. In addition, its results can be used in the study of the creation of a safety system for railway transport. The work is based on unpublished materials from the collections of the Russian State Historical Archive and the State Archive of the Russian Federation. The author comes to the conclusion that the need to create a reliable system of protection of the emperor during railway trips was due to the fact that revolutionary organizations since the 1870s from time to time attempted to undermine the tsar's train. The paper focuses on the fact that purely technical issues were complicated by bureaucratic and political factors.
