The main purpose of the article is to consider the problem of the «holy places» waqfs in the Turkestan General Government (Territory). It is indicated that there was a large number of holy places of both local and regional significance, and places of worship, which were visited by pilgrims from territories neighbouring Central Asia. It is stressed that after coming of Russia to this region, the authorities of Turkestan made repeated attempts to bring under control the funds received from waqf property of holy places, but they did not lead to any significant results. In conclusion, it should be noted that obviously, the authorities of Turkestan were afraid to act harshly in solving this problem, realizing that this could lead to the collapse of the system that took shape over the centuries and which in fact was a reflection of patriarchal-feudal relations in this sensitive for Russia region.
