The aim of the article is to analyze the influence of political events on the content of church periodicals and to identify the relationship between church and secular authorities in the Orel diocese. The relevance of the topic is due to several key aspects. Firstly, in the context of studying the history of Russia in the late 19th – early 20th centuries, it is necessary to take into account the influence of political events on various spheres of life, including religious life. Diocesan Gazette is a unique source that allows us to study how global political changes, such as reforms, wars, revolutions and social movements, were reflected in church life and in the perception of these events by the local population. Secondly, the Orel Diocesan Gazette provides information on the reaction of church and secular authorities to political events, as well as on how the church used its communication channels to convey to parishioners the official position on important issues. This creates a picture of the interaction between church and secular structures of power, which is relevant for understanding the development of the Russian state and socio-economic system.
The importance of diocesan news as a historical source is difficult to overestimate. They are not only a chronicle of religious life, but also reflect the cultural, social and political realities of the period under consideration. These documents enable researchers to analyze the interaction of various social groups, assess the influence of the church on the formation of public opinion and study the processes taking place in society through the prism of religion and cultural heritage.
The study of political events in the context of the Orel diocese is important for understanding the interaction between church and secular power in Russia. This study reveals how political changes were reflected in the church press and how they shaped social and cultural processes in the region, which, in turn, can provide valuable lessons for the analysis of modern media trends and their impact on public consciousness.
