The purpose of the study is to analyze the goals, objectives, directions, forms and methods of military-patriotic education in the Soviet Union in the second half of the 1960s – 1980s.
Problem. The specific mechanisms and daily practices of military-patriotic work with youth in the late Soviet period are still insufficiently studied in historical science. Researchers often limit themselves to analyzing party resolutions, losing sight of the real work on the ground.
Methodology. The article uses a historical and systematic approach. The analysis of the decisions of the highest state and central party structures of the Soviet Union is carried out. The data on the activities of the Moscow branch of DOSAAF, educational institutions, industrial enterprises and institutions are used as materials. Special attention is paid to the study of specific events in Moscow schools in the middle of the 1960s – 1970s.
Novelty. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that the authors consider the Moscow experience of military-patriotic education as a model for the entire Soviet Union for the first time. It is emphasized that it was the capital's forms and methods of work that were later replicated in other regions of the country.
Results. It is shown that it was in the second half of the 1960s – 1980s that military-patriotic education became as popular as it was possible, becoming a truly system of events. Its goal is to form a patriotic consciousness, pride in one's country and a willingness to contribute to its prosperity and protection. The role of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, city and district military offices, the Komsomol and other public organizations is especially emphasized. The authors conclude that all these structures have made a significant contribution to educating young people in the spirit of love for the Motherland and readiness to defend it. The decisions taken by the highest party and state structures to expand military-patriotic activities among young people have been studied and evaluated.
Discussion. Further study of the archival materials of DOSAAF and Komsomol organizations will let reconstruct the regional features of military-patriotic education more fully. A comparative analysis of the Soviet model with the approaches of other states in the same chronological period is also relevant.
