The purpose of the article is to identify the role of Egypt in developing the British military strategy during the Eastern Crisis on the basis of the British and Russian archives (1875–1878).
It is stressed that the study of this problem allows to trace the process of planning the British military operations to capture Egypt. It gives an opportunity to explain the logic of the actions of the British ruling elite during this period.
As a result, the author emphasizes that the research focuses on the study of the records of the British War Department and its intelligence agencies.
